We are speaking with Sarah this week who runs her blog, From Sarah Lex, to hear where her passion came from and what topics she hopes to hear more about online.
Where did your passion for blogging come from?
I have always had a blog, I shared one with my best friend during secondary school, then I wrote a blog for my university, and then when I left education I decided to take it more seriously. I wanted to write about disability but expand on it so people understood that disabled people enjoyed and did things that they did too. I wanted people to stop ordering disabled people and that was my main focus.
What are your favourite topics to blog about?
My favourite topics to write about always contain some aspect of living with chronic conditions; whether it be ‘a day in the life’ or ‘wheelchair fashion picks’. I’ve recently began a body positivity journey and I’m loving sharing that, too.
Are there any topics you would like to see spoken about online more?
I would love to see more disabled people in media campaigns. I would love to see abled people sharing the stories of disabled people and helping us get our voices heard.
We’ve read your blog post about your trip to Fife a few months ago, what was your favourite thing in regard to accessibility?
The best thing about accessibility in Fife for me was the accommodation we stayed in, it was incredible. It was also really nice to have an accessible room that wasn’t clinical looking or hospital-like which some are. I totally fell in love with Fife and can’t wait to return.

Can you share a good and bad experience you have had due to accessibility in general?
There have been so many good and bad experiences I have had regarding accessibility but one bad one that constantly happens is getting assurance when travelling via train. I have never had a good experience, I have also been left on the train waiting for a ramp, despite booking my assistance in advance. It’s always a massive stress.
A positive experience I have had recently is, I was in a shop that had recently been opened and a member of staff came over and asked what I thought of the layout, if there was enough room, if they could do anything differently to help improve my time there. I felt like a valued customer.
Do you think virtual experiences can help you plan where to spend your time & money?
Absolutely, I would feel much better knowing in advance any challenges I may undergo or whether it was worth my time going somewhere.
